SHILLONG, April 4: Repair work for the damaged road linking Goralane in Laitumkhrah (Nongrimmaw) to the Military Engineering Services Office at Spread Eagle Falls has finally started.
Talks are also on for the MES to part with a patch of land for the expansion of the road and construction of a footpath, senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Alexander L. Hek said.
The link road, about 500 metres long, has been a victim of the tug of war between the state PWD and the MES over whose responsibility it is to undertake the repair work.
Informing reporters that the repair work for the link road has started, Hek said, “I sent a letter to the MES Brigadier earlier. He told me today that the road is under the jurisdiction of the MES but has been given to the state PWD.”
He said he directed the PWD to immediately start the repair work from Goralane.
“I am concerned as I am a resident of the area and I frequent that stretch of the road,” he said, adding that the road was under his constituency before the delimitation exercise.
“I have requested Brigadier Samarjit Singh, also the chief engineer of MES Shillong Zone, to part with some land for the expansion and the construction of a footpath for the pedestrians,” Hek said.
