RKM Sohra celebrates excellence and legacy

SHILLONG, April 7: The centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) Sohra commenced with a three-day programme, each dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Maa Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda, on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday respectively.
The festivities began with a Chariot Procession around Khliehshnong village on Saturday, Sri Ramakrishna’s 188th Birth Anniversary. Swami Anuragananda welcomed attendees, followed by the inauguration by Swami Achyuteshananda.
Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, and Editor of The Shillong Times and Padma Shri awardee, Patricia Mukhim, were among the distinguished guests.
Speakers included Theilin Phanbuh, Khasimon Phanbuh, Shembhalang Kharwanlang, and Swami Achyuteshananda.
Swami Vishwanathananda delivered the benedictory speech, and Swami Hitakamananda offered the vote of thanks.
The celebrations included a special meeting of ex-students, a communal meal, and vibrant cultural performances from RKM schools. The subsequent days featured programmes highlighting Maa Sarada Devi’s life and service and a youth convention focusing on Swami Vivekananda’s ideals through discourse and cultural presentations, concluding the opening celebrations on Monday.
