Shillong, April 7: The Meghalaya Basketball Association, in conjunction with the District Basketball Association, initiated the inaugural phase of selection trials for the Meghalaya U-18 Basketball Teams, both men and women, representing the Garo Hills Region. The trials, held on Saturday, marked the first step in assembling a formidable squad for the 74th Junior Basketball Championship slated to unfold in Indore next month.
The venue for these pivotal trials was the Don Bosco College basketball court, where 29 young aspirants from diverse corners of the Garo Hills region converged to showcase their athletic prowess. Among them, 21 boys and eight girls participated fervently, each aiming to secure a coveted spot in the esteemed Meghalaya U-18 Basketball team.
The primary objective of the U-18 basketball trials was to unearth the most promising talents from the region, emphasizing the significance of nurturing local talent. Under the watchful eyes of seasoned coaches and scouts, the young athletes left no stone unturned in demonstrating their skills and determination.Following a rigorous assessment process, only six exceptional talents, comprising four boys and two girls, were deemed worthy of progressing to the subsequent phase of the trials, scheduled to be held in Shillong. Among the selected boys were Asim Jakrikra D Marak from East Garo Hills, Milo Arengh from East Garo Hills, Jaisen M Sangma from West Garo Hills, and Jordan G Momin from North Garo Hills.Similarly, the chosen girls who exhibited exceptional potential were Tengsilchi B Marak from West Garo Hills and Mechira N Sangma from South Garo Hills. Their selection underscores their remarkable talent and dedication to the sport, promising a bright future for Meghalaya basketball.
