Complaint against Dy CM, others for giving misleading statement on police recruitment

SHILLONG, April 10: VPP’s North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum on Wednesday filed an FIR against Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for giving a misleading statement on the police recruitment in the state.
In an FIR addressed to the Officer In-Charge of Sadar police station, Nongrum stated that Tynsong, who holds the Home (Police) portfolio, gave a misleading statement that the upper age limit set in the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) advertisement is in accordance with the Office Memorandum (OM) on age relaxation, but he withheld vital information that the exception to the upper age limit claimed as per the provision in the OM on age relaxation for certain categories of posts is yet to be notified by the Personnel & AR (A) Dept.
Nongrum said that in view of the facts and circumstances presented above, the OC of Sadar police station should register the FIR against the IGP (R/PR) cum-Chairman, CRB and the Principal, PTS cum-Member Secretary, CRB and other Members of the CRB, Meghalaya for criminal offence u/s 218 and 167 of IPC r/w Sec 120A IPC and other relevant provisions of law.
“I further request you to kindly register an FIR against the Secretary of Home (Police) Department and the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya in-charge Home (Police) for abetment under section 107 IPC for the criminal offences mentioned above,” he said.
According to him, the actions of the members of CRB, Meghalaya with respect to preparing the upper age limit in the CRB advertisement, the action of the Secretary, Home (Police) Department in not issuing curative instructions to CRB, Meghalaya in spite of being apprised of the violation of OM on age relaxation and the action of the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya in-charge Home (Police) in misleading the public on the proviso of OM on age relaxation, together have jeopardized the employment opportunities of the youth of the state and infringed on their constitutional right to life and liberty.
Speaking to reporters later, Nongrum said, “If the Home (Police) department issued the advertisement on March 8 and the Model Code of Conduct was invoked on March 16 and then what the Deputy CM doing from March 17 to 21?”
“It is only now that you are seeking an approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI). Does this not reflect the intention of the government that it wants the election to end to approve the new OM which will be against the interest of our youth,” Nongrum said.
Stating that he understand that the Police Department had changed its recruitment policy which was necessary with time, Nongrum said that one should not forget that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had stated that the notification on the upper age limit had already been issued.
“I was told by the Secretary of Home (Police) department that the new OM is still being prepared. My question to the government is why it went ahead by inviting applications from jobseekers when it wanted the new OM to be enforced,” he said.
Pointing out that if the new OM is not approved, than the OM which was issued on February 3, 2022 still stands which mentions that the upper age limit has been increased from 32 to 37 years.
“If the Police department fails to take cognizance of this and take the necessary initiative to resolve the matter then I will explore other options which are available,” Nongrum added.
