Jowai, April 11: Jowai witnessed an exciting event on Tuesday as the Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya spearheaded a ‘Juggle the Football’ competition, aiming to actively involve youths in their ongoing voter awareness initiative. Hosted at the historic Chutwakhu Club, a renowned hub for socio-cultural and sports activities with a legacy spanning a century, the event drew attention from both participants and spectators alike.
B.D.R. Tiwari, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, highlighted the strategic decision to utilize football, a sport deeply ingrained in the local youth culture, as a means to promote voter awareness. “Engaging with the vibrant football community of Jowai is an effective way to connect with the younger demographic,” Tiwari emphasized.
Risly Pssah, Chairman (Sports) of Chutwakhu Sports Club, echoed the sentiment, expressing gratitude towards CEO Meghalaya for selecting their esteemed club to host the ‘Juggle the Football’ event. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from budding football talents representing nine clubs from the Jowai region, accompanied by the presence of esteemed members of the Chutwakhu Sports Club.
The champions of the competition were honored with coveted titles such as the ‘Golden Boots’ along with an array of merchandise, including branded footballs meticulously designed to bolster voter awareness efforts leading up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19 in Meghalaya.
This initiative follows another successful ‘Juggle the Football’ competition held on Monday in Smit, in collaboration with the Smit Football Club and the Seng Samla Shnong, illustrating the commitment of CEO Meghalaya towards engaging communities across the state. Similar events are anticipated to unfold in the Garo hills districts in the forthcoming weeks, underscoring the innovative approach towards fostering civic engagement through sports.
