SHILLONG, April 12: Director-General of Police (DGP), LR Bishnoi on Friday said police are working on leads in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old non-tribal labourer by unidentified assailants at Mawlai Mawroh on Wednesday.
“So far there is no arrest but we are working on leads. We do not want pick up people on the basis of suspicion. We will first confirm their involvement and then pursue the case as per the law,” Bishnoi told The Shillong Times.
Asked if police have identified anyone, the DGP said investigation is on and it would not be prudent to disclose anything at the moment.
The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission has taken suo-motu cognisance of the incident and sought an action taken report from the DGP within 15 days, the MHRC secretary said on Friday.
