SHILLONG, April 12: With 2024 Lok Sabha election few days away, the Department of Political Science, Shillong College, in collaboration with the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) and the Office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Election) on Friday organised an ‘Open Mic Voters’ Awareness Programme’ at Shillong College.
According to a statement, the programme was attended by Eddy Ripnar, a member of the Meghalaya Model United Nations, who shared insights about certain mobile applications that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had recently launched.
“The Know Your Candidate (KYC) app helps you to gather information about any candidate in your constituency and it will help to see the background and criminal records of the candidate, which is very important as voters when choosing the candidate,” he said.
Another app, cVIGIL is an innovative mobile application for citizens to report about fraud, distribution of money during elections, and others, he added.
Ripnar also went on to inform that one can report to the Chief Electoral Officer through the cVIGIL app, following which immediate action will be taken while keeping the complainant’s identity anonymous.
During the programme, questions with a special focus on elections were also asked, for which special gifts were given to the students who gave the correct answers.
