TURA, April 15: The NPP in West Garo Hills has filed a police complaint against Youth Congress leader from Williamnagar, Junebirth C Marak, and unnamed others for posting an old video on Facebook to target the party, which the former termed a criminal conspiracy. The video in question was aired on Garo Hills Digital News (GHD), a local online news channel.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged against Marak on April 13 at the Tura Police Station. A printout of the screenshot of Marak’s Facebook post was also attached with the FIR.
“The video has been posted to incite religious hatred between diverse religious groups and mobilise voters in the name of religion. The video is an old video of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, which was taken during the COVID-19 period. The video was posted with the aim to promote disharmony, enmity and hatred between the different religious groups on the grounds of religion,” the FIR said.
Meanwhile, the complainant has demanded immediate action against Marak and his associates and sought a stop on circulation of the video.
