TURA, April 15: The Tura parliamentary constituency on Monday beheld the ‘Dul Doka’, a programme that was organised using the Garo traditional method to spread information through drumbeats, educating the voters and making an attempt to better participation in the electoral process. The awareness programme was organised at Tura Super Market by the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, in collaboration with the West Garo Hills District Administration and A’chik Theatre Group, Tura, as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani urged all eligible voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise.
Informing that the voter turnout in select polling stations had been less during the previous elections, he, while stressing the importance of voting, urged everyone make efforts towards realising the goal of 100 per cent turnout in upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
