Report sought on presence of schoolchildren at NPP rally

SHILLONG, April 16: The Election Department has sought a report from the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner pertaining to the matter of schoolchildren attending a poll campaign in the district recently.
Students in school uniforms were seen attending a political rally of the NPP at Killing in Ri-Bhoi. NPP national president and Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma attended the rally along with other party leaders.
Speaking on the matter, Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari on Tuesday said they have sought a report from the concerned deputy commissioner.
The Election Commission has issued instructions to all political parties and candidates to refrain from using children in any election-related activities, including political campaigns in any manner, including holding a child in their arms, carrying a child in a vehicle or in rallies.
“The Commission has conveyed ‘zero tolerance’ towards use of children in any manner during the electoral process by parties and candidates,” the poll body said.
