Shillong, April 23: The Voice of People Party (VPP) MLA of North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum on Tuesday slammed the NPP-led MDA Government for its failure to relocate the residents of Them Iew Mawlong.

Speaking to reporters here, Nongrum said that the state government has not been able to fulfill its commitment to relocate the residents from the area for more than five years.

He said that as the local MLA he is concerned about the unhealthy condition of this place and it could lead to serious health hazards.

According to him, the place at Them Iew Mawlong has become a major slum adding that they cannot have such a slum in the heart of the city.

Meanwhile, he also said that the general public is facing great inconvenience to disallow the entry of vehicles to Them Iew Mawlong due to the barricade which has blocked this road.

The North Shillong MLA said that there is a huge traffic jam throughout the area due to the barricade disallowing entry of vehicles.
