BSF, police seize 44,000 kg sugar

SHILLONG, April 23: The Border Security Force (BSF) along with local police on Monday thwarted smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border in South Garo Hills and confiscated more than whopping 44,000-kg sugar, which was loaded in six vehicles.
According to a statement here, in the first operation, the BSF troops, on noticing suspicious movements along the international border, promptly initiated an operation only to seize 790 bags of sugar. The first operation also led to the arrest of four smugglers, who hailed from Goalpara, Assam.
In another joint operation, the BSF troops along with police intercepted two vehicles laden with 94 bags of sugar.
“The seized goods and apprehended persons were handed over to Rongra Police Station for further legal action,” the statement said.
