NEEPCO official escapes unhurt
SHILLONG, April 24: Unidentified miscreants, riding a two-wheeler, hurled a petrol bomb at a police vehicle that was escorting Director NEEPCO (Personnel) Maj Gen (retired) RK Jha at Demthring under Madanrting police station at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
Police said the petrol bomb was targetted at the NEEPCO official’s vehicle but hit the escort vehicle. The attack occurred while the official was on his way to his residence at Laitkor and was caught up in a traffic jam.
No one was injured as the police personnel inside the escort vehicle managed to douse the fire.
The police have registered a case and begun investigation.
The attack comes close on the heels of the arrest of member of the KSU Nongthymmai circle in connection with the twin-murder case at Ichamati.
In a WhatsApp message to The Shillong Times, the Director NEEPCO (Personnel) said he was lucky to escape unhurt.
“We stopped to locate and identify the miscreants but failed to do so. It was a near miss for me. We will lodge an FIR on Thursday. We will also write a letter to the DGP’s office and the Home Department,” he said.
