Arrest tally comes to 7 in Chenga Benga gang rape case

Tura, April 26: Police in South West Garo Hills have so far arrested seven persons in connection with the heinous gang rape case of two minor tribal girls during the recent Chenga Benga Mela.

Initially, four suspects were detained, and following comprehensive interrogations and technical analysis, an additional three suspects were apprehended on April 26, 2024. All arrested individuals hail from Teporpara, South Salmara, Mankachar district, Assam, situated near the site of the incident.

The arrested individuals are currently under police custody for a period of five days, as investigations continue to unfold. While certain suspects remain at large, Ampati Police, in collaboration with Assam Police, are diligently working to locate and apprehend the remaining perpetrators.

The Superintendent of Police, South West Garo Hills, Vikas Kumar has assured the public of their unwavering commitment to bring all those responsible for this reprehensible act to justice. Updates regarding the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
