‘Party’s victory on June 4 will send a message to MDA Govt to stop taking
the people for granted’

SHILLONG, April 25: A confident Voice of the People Party on Thursday asserted that it’s grand victory in the Shillong Lok Sabha seat would send a strong message to the incumbent NPP-led MDA Government “not to take the people for granted”.
“The people of the state are well informed. The NPP-led MDA Government has less than four years to win back the confidence of the people. The VPP will pose a major threat ‘politically’ if they fail to deliver as per the expectations of the people. The outcome of the Lok Sabha polls is just the beginning,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said.
Myrboh said the party’s main focus is on the results to be declared on June 4.
He said the VPP will perform its duty to back a strong opposition alliance in Delhi in case the BJP-led NDA returns to power.
“At the same time, we are ready to back any secular non-BJP government at the Centre if they require our support. Our role in the Parliament will depend on the overall outcome of the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
He also slammed the state’s political parties and seasoned politicians for failing to gauge the popularity of the VPP among the masses.
This happened because they do not have good political strategists and thinkers in their fold, Myrboh continued.
Stating that people reposed their confidence and faith on the VPP since its formation, he said the party had a limited time before going to the hustings in 2023.
“We would have done much better in last year’s Assembly elections if we had more time. I am confident that the popularity of the party will only grow in the days to come,” Myrboh said.
He lamented the political rivals for expressing skepticism over the VPP’s ability to fight elections without money.
“They still cannot believe how the party is fighting elections without money. The USP of the VPP is that it understands the feelings and expectations of the people. People do not need leaders who give them money. They want leaders who will serve them with dedication and honesty,” the VPP leader stated.
People will accept money for the sake of it but, in reality, they will follow leaders who can give them hope for a better future.
“Sadly, the incumbent MLAs are too intoxicated with power and fail to understand the expectations of the people. We are confident that the people will no longer be misguided by such self-centered politicians,” Myrboh added.
