SHILLONG, April 26: Unidentified miscreants lobbed a petrol bomb at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar at Nongmensong locality in East Khasi Hills on Friday.
Police, however, are not convinced that it was a petrol bomb attack on the Deputy CM’s residence and are investigating the same.
“We are still investigating if the object is a petrol bomb. We will update once further details emerge on this,” East Khasi Hills SP, Rituraj Ravi told reporters.
He said the police are working on any CCTV footage available at Dhar’s residence to ascertain the time it was hurled.
“We have registered a case and I have visited the place of occurrence,” Ravi said, adding that the security at the deputy CM’s residence and all other vital and vulnerable areas of the city has been beefed up.
Speaking about the attack, Dhar told reporters that the state government is very clear that whoever is responsible for the attack will not be spared.
Meanwhile, the SP said a burning rag was thrown at the convoy of the NEEPCO Director (Personnel) at Demthring on Wednesday evening.
“But there was no injury. We have also registered an FIR even in this case and we are investigating it,” the police official said.
In reply to a query, he said that the sale of loose petrol in East Khasi Hills is prohibited since the order issued by the deputy commissioner to impose Section 144 of the CrPC is still in operation.
“However, in light of these events, we are taking further measures to strengthen security. We are on alert and the investigation is being done thoroughly and professionally. We are confident and hopeful that all the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice,” Ravi said.
He urged all peace-loving citizens of the state not to take laws into their own hands and to cooperate with the investigation.
