BSF, police foil Sugar smuggling in SGH

Tura, April 29: The BSF along with the police in South Garo Hills have managed to foil a sugar smuggling bid to neighbouring Bangladesh leading to the seizure of over 42,000 Kgs of the illegal commodity.

Based on specific information, troops belonging to the 200 Bn BSF in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police conducted a joint operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border. During the operation 42,300 Kgs of Sugar worth more than Rs 16 lakh were recovered from an abandoned house located in close proximity to the International border. The seized Sugar bags were handed over to the Rongara police station for further action.

The joint operation was conducted on Sunday, April 28.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation conducted by the force in East Khasi Hills, the 193 Bn BSF was able to seize clothing items i.e. Sarees, worth more than Rs 3 Lakh, while being smuggled to Bangladesh through the International border.
