SHILLONG, April 30: The delimitation committee, tasked to re-organise the 29 constituencies of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), is likely to submit its report soon.
KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member PN Syiem told reporters on Tuesday that from what he understands, the committee will submit its report shortly.
According to him, the committee, which was granted extension for six months, should be able to complete the task within the stipulated time.
Syiem said the Executive Committee (EC) of the KHADC will have to discuss and study the report once it receives the same from the delimitation panel.
“We will then convene a session to table the report on the floor of the House. Subsequently, it will be sent to the Governor for his assent. We will then get it notified in the official gazette and only after that, election will be held,” he said.
He also said that the holding of the election will depend entirely on the submission of the report by the delimitation committee.
Earlier, Syiem stated that the Governor had notified the extension of the Council’s term for six months with effect from March 13 following a recommendation by the Cabinet.
