Shillong, April 30: Samborlang Rynjah, a six-year-old from Meghalaya, who gained widespread recognition for his exceptional goalkeeping skills, may soon have the opportunity to showcase his talent at the Minerva Punjab Football Academy, with a trial on scholarships being offered to him, according to his mother.
Samborlang’s fame skyrocketed after a video of his impressive goalkeeping abilities caught the attention of Junior Emiliano Martinez, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper from Argentina, who shared the footage on his Instagram handle.
The video, originally posted by Samborlang’s brother Banshailang, also garnered attention from the Indian Super League (ISL), further propelling the young talent into the spotlight.
Speaking to PTI, Samborlang’s mother, Kyntiewlang Rynjah, expressed gratitude for the opportunities arising for her son, mentioning that Minerva Football Academy has extended an offer for a trial and scholarship. While other clubs in Meghalaya, such as Shillong Lajong FC and Rangdajied FC, have also shown interest, the family is inclined towards sending Samborlang to Punjab due to the promising prospects and infrastructure available there.
In addition to domestic interest, agents from clubs in Sweden and Saudi Arabia have reached out to Banshailang, signaling the international appeal of Samborlang’s talent.
Minerva Academy Football Club, based in Chandigarh, Punjab, is renowned for its football academy and is owned by Ranjit Bajaj, a prominent figure in the Indian football scene.
Samborlang, hailing from Mawryngkneng, has become a local sensation, with his remarkable skills capturing the imagination of football enthusiasts across the nation.
