Cops seize heroin worth Rs 2.1 cr; second haul in three days

SHILLONG, May 1: In a second major haul in three days, as many as 25 soap boxes filled with heroin which is estimated to be worth Rs 2.1 crore was recovered by police in East Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.
A naka checking was set up at Ratacherra Infiltration Check Post, and around 10 pm, a night super bus of MTC bearing the registration number ML-03-0216 was intercepted and checked.
During checking, the illegal contraband items including the heroin as well as 3,720 Nitrazepam tablets besides a mobile phone were recovered from the possession of one Mizazur Rahman Barbhuiya, son of Mabasil Ali Barbhuiya, a resident of Kachudaram, Part-II, Cachar district of Assam.
The accused has been detained, the East Jaintia Hills police said in a statement.
