Memorial for NIFT student who drowned

SHILLONG, May 5: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong will be hosting a memorial for one of its students, Anshuman Brahma, who lost his life in an unfortunate incident when a group of students from the institute went on an educational trek to David Scott’s Trail in Mawphlang village of East Khasi Hills district.
The memorial will be held on Monday to celebrate his life at NIFT’s permanent campus in Umsawli.
It may be recalled that four students from the group went for a swim in the stream under the suspension bridge which unfortunately led to Anshuman drowning.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon and the Search and Rescue Team (SRT) was called for.
The search continued until the next day (Saturday) when his body was recovered.
The founding Chairman of Ka Synjuk Ki Hima Arliang Wah Umiam Mawphlang Welfare Society, T Lyngdoh, the headman of Mawphlang and his team, the OC of Mawphlang and PHC extended their support in recovering his body.
Young Anshuman was a very talented and lively individual.
He was a great student, and moreover a caring friend.
