Shillong, May 5: The Meghalaya contingent gearing up for the inaugural U-20 Men’s National Football Championship, organized by the All India Football Federation, is set to depart from Shillong to Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday.
On Saturday, the Meghalaya Football Association orchestrated a heartfelt send-off for the 18-player squad and three accompanying officials, spearheaded by the state’s esteemed youth coach, Jeffrey Warlarpih.
Dubbed after the eminent Swami Vivekananda, the championship commenced in April and is structured in stages to accommodate all participating teams at a single venue.
A total of 32 states are vying for supremacy in the tournament, with the grand finale slated for May 22.
Meghalaya finds itself in Group F alongside Rajasthan, Mizoram, and Maharashtra.
The group victor will clash with the top contender from Group G in the fourth quarterfinal on May 18.
The Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship is a significant football event being held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Sports Complex in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. This championship involves 32 states competing, with the final match scheduled for May 22, 2024.
West Bengal was the first team to secure a spot in the quarter-finals by defeating Uttarakhand. The tournament is a new addition to the All India Football Federation’s calendar and is a notable event in Indian football.
