Shillong Polytechnic student allegedly kills self in hostel

SHILLONG, May 6: A second-year civil engineering student at the Shillong Polytechnic, Diana Dimre Ch Marak allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself on the grill of window on the hostel corridor at around 2 am on Monday.
The body of Diana, 24, who hails from Upper Babupara in Tura, West Garo Hills, was first witnessed by one of her college and hostel mates. The hostel warden and chowkidar learnt of the incident only after hearing the cries of the hostellers.
The hostel warden immediately called up the police who arrived at the spot and shifted the body to Shillong Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the relatives and was taken to her residence in Tura.
Meanwhile, police said they are treating it as a case of suicide but since investigation is under way, nothing can be ruled out at the moment.
