MAWKYRWAT, May 7: Around 7-year-old aspiration of constructing a market complex at Mawkyrwat Market here could not materialise due to the lack of coordination among the landowners, collectively called ‘Sankur’ who own the market, observed the Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC, Pynshngain N Syiem.
On November 18, 2016, Syiem, who was the KHADC CEM then, had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the market complex at Mawkyrwat Market through the Special Assistance Scheme received from the central government. However, the project has not seen any progress till date besides the laying of the foundation stone.
Speaking to media persons on Monday after inspecting the District Council Court here in Mawkyrwat, Syiem said the lack of coordination among the Sankur prompted the Council to keep the project on hold. The scheme was subsequently shelved.
Asked if the Council intends to introduce such a big project again in Mawkyrwat, the Deputy CEM said that the KHADC is most certainly interested in such an endeavour but it all depends on the availability of funds.
