BSF prevents smuggling bids, makes major seizures

SHILLONG, May 8: In different operations conducted on Tuesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) troops successfully thwarted illegal smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya by seizing cattle, sugar and cosmetic items worth over Rs 15 lakh while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific info, BSF troops of 4th Battalion BSF seized a huge quantity of cosmetic items along the border in East Khasi Hills. The confiscated items were handed over to the concerned Customs office for further action.
In another operation, BSF troops of 193rd Battalion BSF rescued eight heads of cattle from the border area of BOP Dulainala, while the animals were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Moreover, BSF troops of 200th Battalion BSF in collaboration with Meghalaya Police seized a large cache of sugar, which had been stockpiled in an abandoned house near the international border in South Garo Hills.
The seized sugar was handed over to Rongra Police Station for further action.
