SHILLONG, May 10: The state government on Friday made it clear that the best candidate will be appointed as the next Director General of Meghalaya Police from among the three shortlisted candidates.
Asking the people not to doubt the intention of the state government, he assured that the government will select the best officer as the DGP.
Asked about the demands from political parties like UDP, VPP and BJP to appoint Nongrang as the next DGP, Tynsong said that the appointment is done after going through a lot of guidelines.
As Meghalaya along with the rest of the country is under the model code of conduct, the Election Commission of India will take the call on appointment of the DGP.
The three shortlisted candidates, whose names have been approved by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), are Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch) who is currently serving as Director General, Meghalaya Civil Defence & Home Guards, BSF Additional Director General (HR) Ram Prasad Meena and CRPF Additional Director General Deepak Kumar.
The state government had proposed five names including that of GP Singh and Harmeet Singh, both currently serving in the Assam police, but they declined to take up the assignment.
The incumbent DGP, LR Bishnoi will demit office on May 19.
