Nongpoh, May 11: Pahamsyiem Nongpoh’s NSCA playground witnessed a thrilling finale as the curtains fell on the three-day District Level Inter School Athletics Meet 2024 this Saturday.
Organized under the auspices of the District Sports Officer of Ri Bhoi District, the event showcased a dazzling array of talent and fierce competition among participating schools.
Emerging as the undisputed champions, St. Alfred Secondary School Marngar secured the coveted overall winner title with an impressive tally of 31 medals.
Their stellar performance included a remarkable 16 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals, highlighting their supremacy across various disciplines.
In addition to their overall triumph, St. Alfred Secondary School, Marngar, clinched additional honors by being crowned the Best Team in the under-14 boys and girls categories, as well as in the under-16 and under-18 girls divisions.
Meanwhile, St. Pauls Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh, showcased their prowess by securing the title of Best Team in the under-16 and under-18 boys categories.
The outstanding performance of these winning teams has earned them the privilege of representing the district at the forthcoming State Level Inter School Athletics Meet 2024, scheduled to be held in Shillong.
The event’s closing ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Raja Brahma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, who presided as the chief guest.
Notable dignitaries, including the District School Education Officer, PL Nonglait, and the District Sports Officer of Ri Bhoi, Bobby L Nongbet, were also in attendance.Addressing the gathering, Raja Brahma underscored the pivotal role of sports in fostering the holistic development of young individuals.
He emphasized the virtues of physical activity, highlighting its importance in promoting good health, mental agility, and character development.
Commending the winners for their exemplary feats, he urged them to persevere in their pursuits and strive for excellence continually.
Additionally, he offered words of encouragement to all participants, urging them to channel their efforts towards self-improvement and realizing their full potential.
The stellar performances showcased by the participating schools not only exemplify their dedication and hard work but also serve as a testament to the importance of sports in shaping young minds.
