Shillong, May 11: In a move aligned with the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s (MCA) dedication to fostering and uplifting local talents from rural areas across all districts in Meghalaya, the cricket academy of South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association was officially inaugurated at Mawten in Mawkyrwat on Saturday.
The inauguration ceremony saw the esteemed presence of Naba Bhattacharjee, president, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), Gideon Kharkongor, honourable secretary of MCA, and Dhruba Thakuria, honourable treasurer of MCA, alongside Banteibor Lyngdoh, president, and B. Nongsiej, general secretary, along with other officials of SWKHDCA.
This initiative, backed by the MCA, aims to provide training and guidance to budding cricketers through the expertise of local qualified coaches affiliated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA).The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 180 aspiring cricketers, comprising both boys and girls aged between 7 to 14 years, enrolling in the academy. The significant turnout underscores the enthusiasm and passion for cricket among the youth of the region.Expressing optimism for the future of cricket in the state, Naba Bhattacharjee stated, “I am confident that players from this district will be the future strength of cricket in our state.”
The MCA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting such initiatives aimed at strengthening the grassroots promotion of cricket on a sustained basis.
The establishment of the Cricket Academy of South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association marks a pivotal step towards nurturing and harnessing local cricketing talent, furthering the sport’s reach and popularity across Meghalaya.
