SHILLONG, May 13: Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal on Monday claimed that Meghalaya was in a very comfortable position as far as availability of power is concerned.
“We are doing pretty well and if rain comes, the power is going to further improve,” the minister said while adding that the MeECL should be complimented for managing the power situation effectively.
He stated that two unit of the Myntdu-Leshkha Hydroelectric project were not generating power due to technical issues but the issue has been resolved and the project is generating almost 1 million units per day.
The third unit of the project is nonfunctional and is expected to generate power by the end of June, he said.
Asked about the frequent power cuts in some areas, he said areas like Mawryngkneng and Mawkynrew were facing disturbances due to thunderstorms and rainfall which is evident in the early part of the monsoon.
