NONGPOH, May 14: Grief shrouded Erpakon village in Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday as the mortal remains of Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, who was murdered on May 11, were laid to rest.
Attended by residents from Erpakon as well as the neighboring villages, a resolute call for justice echoed during the funeral rites.
The mourners were seen carrying black flags and placards, condemning the homicide and urging the authorities to ensure stringent punishment for the accused.
It may be mentioned that Nonglait’s brutally murdered body was discovered on the village road of Erpakon on May 11, which left the community shocked and horrified.
The suspect, identified as Raju Rajbhar, who is an employee of RN Sharmna Hotel, was swiftly apprehended by the Ri-Bhoi Police, following a complaint filed by the victim’s wife.
During police interrogation, Rajbhar reportedly admitted to being involved in a fatal altercation with the victim.
It was informed that under the influence of alcohol, a dispute allegedly escalated, leading to Rajbhar viciously attacking Nonglait with a wooden log and inflicting fatal injuries.
Rajbhar subsequently fled the scene only to be apprehended later by police.
