MAWKYRWAT, May 18: A district-level Science, Mathematics, and Environment exhibition was organised by the District School Education Officer (DSEO) of South West Khasi Hills at the Maharam Government Higher Secondary School Auditorium in Mawkyrwat on Friday. Eleven schools from the district participated in the event themed ‘Science and Technology for Society.’
The exhibition was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, YR Mawlong, as the chief guest, alongside the In-charge of DSEO, DG Nongsiej, and Sub-Inspector of Schools, S Kharbteng.
Mawlong highlighted the theme’s alignment with the State Council of Science, Technology, and Environment’s mission to harness science and technology for the state’s development. She emphasised the exhibition’s role in popularising science, mathematics, and environmental issues among students while nurturing innovative talents.
Nongsiej noted that the exhibition aims to identify students’ talents in these fields and prepare them for the State Level Science, Mathematics, and Environment Exhibition.
Students showcased models on topics such as drip irrigation, environmental degradation, soil erosion and conservation, hydroponic farming, and water purification.
Deitibaphylla Wanniang of Little Star Higher Secondary School won the first prize, Khlainkupar Iawphniaw of Horirai Syiemlieh Memorial Higher Secondary School took the second prize, and Medaniewbha Syiemlieh of Mawkyrwat Presbyterian Secondary School bagged the third prize.
Winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
