Ex-minister moves court against wife, son
JAIPUR, May 19: Former Rajasthan minister and member of the erstwhile royal family of Bharatpur Vishvendra Singh has moved court against his wife and son, alleging that they tortured him, did not give him enough food and eventually “expelled” him from his house.In his application filed in a sub-divisional magistrate’s court, Vishvendra Singh also sought maintenance expenses from his wife Divya Singh and son Anirudh Singh. He has filed the application under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.In turn, Divya Singh, a former Bharatpur MP, and her son accused Vishvendra Singh of selling ancestral properties and tarnishing their image.In his application, 62-year-old Vishvendra Singh stated that he suffers from heart disease and cannot cope with depression. Despite having contracted COVID-19 twice in 2021 and 2022, his wife and son failed to care for him. Singh has demanded Rs 5 lakh per month as maintenance from his wife and son, and that the ownership of the palace and all assets be transferred to him. (PTI)
Elderly woman robbed, killed at housing society
VADODARA, May 19: A 71-year-old woman was stabbed to death and robbed allegedly by a man who ran errands for her in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Sunday, police said.The police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the incident that occurred in a housing society in the Tarsali Road area around 4 am, police said.Police teams apprehended Vishal Saroj, a resident of the area, and he is the only person involved in the crime, the official said.According to the police, the victim, Sukhjitkaur, and her husband, Harwinder Singh (73), lived alone in their apartment, and the accused ran errands for them.Patil said Saroj allegedly cut off the power supply to the house in the wee hours, forcing the victim to step out after the air conditioner stopped working.As soon as the woman came out, the accused attacked her in the dark and slit her throat, and decamped with her jewellery, she said.When the victim’s husband came out, he found her lying in a pool of blood and alerted the neighbours, the official said.The injured woman was rushed to a private hospital, where she died due to excessive bleeding. National Conference workers stabbed in poll rally
JAMMU, May 19: Three National Conference (NC) workers were injured when unidentified persons attacked them with knives at an election rally in Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Sunday, officials said.NC president Farooq Abdullah was present at the rally organised by the party in support of its Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat candidate Mian Altaf in Mendhar. The rally continued without any disruption.Officials said there was a clash between two groups over some issue during the rally. Taking advantage of the melee, the attackers managed to escape, the officials said.Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are trying to nab the culprits, they said.Sohail Ahmad and Yaseer Ahmad and Mohd Imran received stab injuries and were taken to a local hospital, the officials said.
