11-year-old’s rape triggers protests in MP
BARWANI, May 22: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver in Sendhwa town of Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district, an official said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday night and the police have arrested the 35-year-old accused, he said. The episode triggered protests with people demanding strict action against the accused. A group of people staged a road blockade and closed the market demanding action against the accused. Some also protested at a local police station demanding that the house of the accused be pulled down. (PTI)
3-yr-old killed after attack by stray dog
Nagpur, May 22: A three-year-old boy died after being attacked by a stray dog in Mouda town of Nagpur district, police said on Wednesday. Vansh Ankush Shahane, the victim, was playing outside his house when a dog attacked him on Tuesday afternoon, said an official. His family members rushed him to the government hospital but the child succumbed to his injuries. (PTI)
Trapped in barbed wire, leopard dies
Palakkad (Kerala), May 22: A leopard found trapped in a barbed wire fence in a village on the forest fringe died hours after it was tranquilised and rescued by wildlife officials in Kerala’s Palakkad district on Wednesday. The female leopard, estimated to be around four years old, was found tangled in the wire fence erected on a property owned by Unnikrishnan, a local resident, near Kollengode this morning. Wildlife officials said the animal seemed healthy and active even after it was tranquilised with a dart and shifted to a cage by the Rapid Response Team. A senior forest official said there was no external injury found on the carcass of the big cat after its death, and so an internal injury is suspected to be the cause of its sudden death. (PTI)
