BSF confiscates 24,000 kg sugar; duo nabbed

SHILLONG, May 25: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on Friday confiscated a whopping 24,000 kg sugar, which was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
According to a statement here, the BSF troops, acting on a tip-off, had intercepted a truck laden with sugar near Kuliang bordering area in the East Jaintia Hills district.
“Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar. The seized sugar and both apprehended persons (Indian nationals) were handed over to the Customs office Badarpur for further legal proceedings,” the statement said.
