TURA, May 25: A 52-year-old resident of Tura, Sisil Sangma, on Saturday drowned while reportedly swimming in the popular Pelga Dare waterfall.
Pelga Dare, which is a favored local hangout spot, has a history of drowning incidents due to the depth of its waters and the abundance of rock formations.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the afternoon, and after discovering the body of the victim, the locals immediately informed the police authorities. “Staff were deputed to conduct an inquiry into the matter. The body of the deceased has been shifted to the Tura Civil Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is currently underway,” said West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Dara Aswaghosh.
