TURA, May 31: Social activist Nilbath Ch Marak has filed a complaint with the Office of the Chief Engineer (CE) of the PHE department against the alleged irregular supply of water under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project in the villages of Nengsepgittim and Dawa Gittingre in the district of East Garo Hills, (EGH). The complaint was filed against the executive engineer of PHE EGH, Sujit Marak.
Earlier, the activist had written to the executive engineer after it was discerned that the two villages were reportedly without water for close to two months despite their project under JJM being completed.
It was after this the executive engineer stated that the project had been handed over to the villagers as well as its maintenance and supply.
In his complaint, Nilbath stated that a complaint was raised on the issue with the executive engineer, who, he added, had chosen to neglect the issue instead of acting on it.
The complaint was filed on May 20.
“Despite the implementation of the scheme, water supply has become irregular and as such a complaint was filed. This, however, was completely ignored by the PHE and is a matter of great concern. We therefore, for the interest of the people of these villages, seek action against these erring officers who are reluctant to address such a grave issue of water,” stated Nilbath in his complaint which was submitted on May 31.
