SHILLONG, June 3: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) is the only party that has planned to take out a victory procession on Tuesday, provided its candidate Ricky AJ Syngkon wins the coveted Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
VPP spokesperson, Batskhem Myrboh said on Monday that they will not take out any procession towards the city as it might lead to traffic jams and cause inconvenience to the public.
He said they will take out a victory procession from Polo towards Mawroh, Mawtawar and finally culminate at Umroi in case the party candidate wins.
Myrboh said VPP party leaders and supporters will meet at Polo on Tuesday morning to wait for the outcome of the results. “We will not take out any procession in the morning,” he said.
Sitting Lok Sabha member and Congress candidate, Vincent H Pala said he will not be taking out any victory procession if he is re-elected for a record fourth term.
RDA common candidate, Robertjune Kharjahrin said they are yet to decide on a victory procession.
“Let us see. We will decide tomorrow,” Kharjahrin said.
There was no word on whether the NPP has made any plan to take out a victory procession.
When contacted, Returning Officer of Shillong Parliamentary seat, SC Sadhu said he is yet to receive anything in writing from any of the political parties to indicate their route which they plan to take for their victory procession/rally.
He said that the political parties are likely to inform the district administration about the route which they plan to take on Tuesday morning.
