SHILLONG, June 5: Deputy Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) state president, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday threw the gauntlet, stating that anyone can file an FIR against him and the departments he is holding if there are any instances of corruption.
Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief, Ardent Basaiawmoit had on Tuesday vowed to take up the issue of corruption at the national level. He questioned the central government for not sending the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the corruption cases in Meghalaya.
Welcoming any inquiry by the CBI or the ED, Tynsong said, “Some people think I, Conrad, Sniawbhalang and other ministers are corrupt. But I am here to serve the interest of the state. I have my own salary. I don’t live with corruption.”
He asked people to file an FIR and approach the courts if there is corruption in any of the departments he looks after.
“The way they talk, it appears CBI and ED are in their pockets,” Tynsong said.
Asked about the legacy of Purno Sangma family in Tura finally coming to an end, he said nobody owns any property in politics.
On the VPP’s call to the MDA leaders to step down after the MDA suffered a humiliating  defeat in the two seats, Tynsong said he has not ever seen any government stepping down after losing an election.
“This is an immature and irrelevant statement by VPP,” he said, adding that the defeat of a party in an election does not mean it will keep losing.
“We not only have to accept the defeat but we also have to diagnose, examine and review the style of functioning of the party,” he said.
The NPP will soon hold a meeting to examine and find out the loopholes which led to its downfall in the Lok Sabha elections.
