SHILLONG, June 6: In anticipation of International Yoga Day, observed on June 21, the University Level Committee at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, organised an Invited Lecture on Thursday. The event, held in the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Hall, featured several distinguished guests, including Vice Chancellor of NEHU Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla as the chief guest. Prof Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, Principal (I/C) of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, was the special guest and resource person of the lecture.
Prof DK Choubey, Chairman of the University Level Yoga Committee at NEHU, welcomed the dignitaries, invitees, and participants. He emphasised the numerous health benefits of Yoga, highlighting its positive impact on overall well-being.
Prof Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, an esteemed expert in Yoga, delivered an insightful lecture on ‘Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) through Yoga.’ He discussed the philosophy of Yoga, explaining how regular practice leads to a well-balanced life, enhanced skill performance, and improved personal development and health. Prof Dwivedi elaborated on the ‘Eight Fold Path’ of Yoga and demonstrated various poses, focusing on their benefits in combating common non-communicable diseases. He concluded by stressing the importance of a balanced diet and lifestyle combined with regular Yoga practice, captivating the audience with his comprehensive insights.
Following Prof Dwivedi’s lecture, Prof Shukla expressed profound appreciation for Prof Dwivedi’s participation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr FR Sumer, University Librarian and Convenor of the University Level Yoga Committee at NEHU.
The lecture marked the beginning of NEHU’s celebrations for International Yoga Day.
