SMB files FIR over ‘illegal’ collection

SHILLONG, June 7: The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Friday field an FIR with the police informing that it has come to their notice that unknown person(s) were collecting money from street vendors against fake receipts bearing the name of the board.
In the FIR filed with East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi, SMB CEO, PK Boro said unknown person(s) were collecting money on the pretext of registration of vendors, which the Town Vending Committee (TVC) through the office of the SMB is currently conducting as per provisions of the Meghalaya Street Vending (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending), Scheme 2023.
“For your kind information, there is no registration fee being charged by the TVC. This office has also received a formal complaint from the Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers & Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA),” he said.
The SMB CEO requested the SP take action against the person(s) as per provisions of the law.
