NEHU hosts int’l workshop on Philosophy of Economics

SHILLONG, June 13: The Department of Economics at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI) and ICSSR-NERC, has commenced a three-day International Workshop on the Philosophy of Economics. The event, held at the U Kiang Nangbah Guest House Auditorium, started on Wednesday and is to culminate today.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Moses M Naga, Dean of SEMIS, with Vice-Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla serving as chief guest. Shukla emphasised the need to bring economics closer to reality, highlighting a shift from traditional teaching methods. He praised the collaborative efforts of NEHU, YSI, and ICSSR-NERC in advancing economic education through a philosophical lens.
The keynote address by Prof. Muriel Dal Pont Legrand from Universite Cote d’Azur, France, set the stage for the workshop’s discussions.
In the three days, topics include Indian Economic Thought and the philosophies of Keynes, Schumpeter, Sraffa, Hegel, and Marx, as well as institutional economics. The workshop aims to integrate historical, philosophical, and practical dimensions into economic discourse, fostering a more comprehensive understanding of the discipline.
