Three children among 5 killed in Uttarakhand
DEHRADUN, June 16: Two cars fell in gorges in different areas of Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, killing five people, including three minor girls, and injuring eight on Sunday, officials said While one accident was reported from the Khirsu Chaubatta, the other occurred near Dudhrakhal in the Satpuli area, a day after 14 tourists were killed and 12 other injured after a tempo-traveller fell into a gorge in Rudraprayag district.Citing information received from the SDRF, the officials said, in Khirsu Chaubatta, four out of seven people were killed after their car veered off the road and fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge.It is suspected that the driver lost control of the vehicle, the officials said, citing information received from the SDRF. Personnel of the SDRF and police were sent to the site of the accident to rescue the victims.Three people were hurt in the accident and they have been hospitalised, the officials said. The injured have been airlifted to AIIMS in Rishikesh for better treatment, officials said. (PTI)
Meat shop sealed for ‘hurting’ sentiments
NAVI MUMBAI, June 16: The Navi Mumbai police have sealed a meat shop after it was alleged that a religious name had been painted on a goat brought there for slaughter, an official said on Sunday.Acting on a complaint, the police on Saturday sealed the shop and registered a case against three persons he said.Quoting the complaint, the official said 22 goats had been brought to the shop for slaughter but one of the animals had a religious name painted on it.The complainant also accused the trio of “ill-treating” the goat.The three have been booked under various IPC sections. TMC’s Abhishek undergoes minor surgery
KOLKATA, June 16: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday underwent a minor surgery on his back at a Kolkata-based hospital and his condition is stated to be stable, authorities of the medical establishment said.The 37-year-old Diamond Harbour MP, who is also the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was admitted to the hospital in the morning, they said.The official said that Banerjee underwent a minor plastic surgery on his back.Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary and de facto number two in the party, on Wednesday said he would be taking a hiatus from organisational work for some pressing medical reasons. Two teenagers killed in Odisha mishap
BERHAMPUR, June 16: Two teenagers were killed when a car collided with their motorcycle in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday afternoon, police said.The deceased were identified as Alok Gouda (19) and Nirakar Gouda (18), both hailing from Bharasha village, police added.Police said the accident took place at Nirmaljhara under Khallikote police station limits when the two were on their way to their village from Mukundapur.Locals took them to Khallikote community health centre where doctors declared them dead.
