Man kills daughter in honour killing
New Delhi, June 17: A man allegedly slit his daughter’s throat and dumped her body here on a farm in Rohini for wanting to marry a man from another caste against the wishes of the family, police said on Monday. The woman was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds in a farmland in Chandpur village in Kanjhawla area on Sunday, they said. The incident was reported on Father’s Day which is celebrated on June 16. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said the 46-year-old father has been arrested and a cab driver has been detained for questioning. The DCP said police received a call about the incident at 8.53 pm on Sunday. He said a police team immediately reached the spot and found a woman with deep injuries on her neck and abdomen. She was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. In view of the sensitivity case, multiple police teams were formed for the case. CCTV footage of the area was analysed, he said. Boy dies of snakebite
Palghar, June 17: An eight-year-old boy died of a snakebite in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, officials said on Monday. Following the snakebite, the boy, a resident of the Kondana-Satvipada area, was rushed to the Rural Hospital at Manor town and after initial treatment, referred to another hospital for advanced medical care, but succumbed midway on Saturday, a medical officer said. Palghar district Civil Surgeon Dr Ramdas Marad said after the initial treatment, to avoid further complications, the doctor at the Rural Hospital referred the boy to a specialized hospital. The Rural Hospital has a ventilator and other facilities, but the patient might have needed ICU care hence he was referred to the specialised medical facility, Marad said. (PTI)

IIT Kharagpur student found hanging
Kolkata, June 17: The body of an IIT Kharagpur third-year student was found hanging in her hostel on Monday, police said. The student has been identified as Devika Pillai (21), a senior police officer told PTI. “The female student was found hanging from the ceiling of the hostel building. Whether it is a case of suicide or something else is yet to be ascertained. We have started an investigation of the death,” the IPS officer said. The police had earlier stated that the student was a fourth-year student. The body has been sent to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination, the officer added. (PTI)

Over 17.76 lakh apply for 17,471 constable posts
Mumbai/Thane, June 17: A recruitment drive to fill 17,471 constabulary posts in Maharashtra police set to begin on June 19 has received a massive 17.76 lakh applications, an official said on Monday. The recruitment drive is for posts of constables, drivers, band men, SRPF personnel and jail staff, the official said. “For 9,595 constable posts, we have got 8,22,984 applications, while for 1,686 constable driver posts, we have received 1,98,300 applications. For 1800 prison constable posts, 3,72,354 applications have been received. (PTI)
