Hek seeks 15% reservation for general candidates

SHILLONG, June 19: Cabinet Minister Alexander L Hek has suggested to the Expert Committee on Reservation that 15% of the vacancies in jobs should be reserved for the general/unreserved categories.
In his suggestion to the Expert Committee, Hek said that out of 40% reservation given to the Khasi-Jaintias and another 40% to the Garos, half of the vacancies should be reserved in favour of the poorest of the poor BPL families of the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo tribes while the remaining half should be reserved for the communities in general.
Hek also said that 5% reservation should be in favour of other Schedule Tribes and Schedule Castes residing in Meghalaya.
