Plaint against PHE official over info denial under RTI Act

TURA, June 20: Former South Tura MLA John Leslee K Sangma has submitted a complaint to the Chief Information Commissioner in Shillong, accusing the PHE Department in Williamnagarb of rejecting an application seeking information under the RTI Act, 2005. According to the complaint, Sangma had sent the application to the PIO of the PHE Department on June 11. However, the department reportedly refused to accept the application, informing that the person in charge of receiving the same was not available. Sangma reportedly sent the application once again on June 13 through the same person where a woman, upon opening the sealed envelope addressed to the PIO, told her that she could not accept the application as she had strict directions from the Engineer not to do so without his approval. Sangma, while pointing out that his right to avail information under the RTI Act was undermined, urged the official to look into the matter.
