BJP youth leader shot dead
INDORE, June 23: A BJP youth wing leader was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne persons in Indore in Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of Sunday, a police official said.Monu Kalyane (35), vice president of the city unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was gunned down in front of a shop at around 2AM. “Kalyane and two others were pasting posters at the site when two men came on a motorcycle and asked for his phone number and details of a vehicle rally the deceased was set to organise on Sunday. One of the motorcycle borne persons then fired at Kalyane’s chest,” he said.“When his friends tried to react, the accused fired in the air and fled. Kalyane was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Three to four shots were fired as per initial probe, two of which were aimed at Kalyane. The names of Arjun Pathrod and Piyush Pathrod have come during our probe as Kalyane had an old enmity with them,” police said. (PTI)

4 arrested for attack on TMC councillor’s office
KOLKATA, June 23: Four people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly vandalising the office of a TMC leader in south Kolkata’s Garia area, police said.Armed men vandalised the office of Pintu Debnath, who is the councillor of ward 1 of Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality, near the Garia station on Friday night. Three of his supporters were also injured in the attack, they said.Those arrested were identified as Tukai Josh, Asit Halder, Gopal Debnath and Tarak Das. They were all named in the FIR lodged in connection with the vandalism, police said.Debnath claimed that the accused were BJP workers but before the elections, they had tried to join the TMC. Debnath said two more people were involved in the attack, and they are yet to be caught. BJP leader Sajal Ghosh claimed the incident was the result of a fight between two factions of the TMC over sharing the spoils of the booming construction business in the southern outskirts of the city. Two CoBRA personnel killed as Naxals blow up truck
SUKMA, (Chhattisgarh) June 23: Two personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force’s jungle warfare unit CoBRA were killed after Naxalites blew up a truck with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgah’s Sukma district on Sunday, police said.The Naxal blast took place around 3pm near Timmapuram village, over 400 km from the state capital Raipur, a senior police official said.An advance party of the 201st unit of CoBRA had launched patrolling from Silger camp duty towards Tekalgudem, he said.The security personnel were on motorcycles while their luggage and rations were being ferried in the ill-fated truck, he said.“Naxalites triggered an IED blast targeting the truck that claimed the lives of constable Shailendra (29), a resident of UP, and driver Vishnu R (35) hailing from Kerala. The truck did not have any other occupant,” he said.After being alerted about the blast, more forces were rushed to the spot and the bodies were evacuated from the forest, while a search operation continues there, he said. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said in a message on X that the martyrdom of jawans will not go in vain. (PTI)
