Boy dies after toy train compartment overturns
Chandigarh, June 24: A 10-year-old boy died after the compartment of a toy train in which he was taking a joy ride overturned at a mall here, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Saturday night at Elante Mall, where the boy and his family from Balachaur in Nawanshahr, Punjab, were enjoying an outing, they said. A purported CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced on social media. According to the police, Shahbaz was sitting in the last compartment, which overturned as the toy train made a turn, leaving the boy with severe head injuries. A case has been registered and the police have also taken the toy train in their custody. (PTI)
Woman held for killing mother, brother
Yamunanagar, June 24: A 22-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her mother and brother at their house here, police said on Monday. According to the police, the bodies of the victims — 45-year-old Meena and her 24-year-old Rahul — were found at their house in a residential locality here on Sunday. Their neighbours alerted the police about the incident. While Meena was found lying dead on a bed, Rahul’s body lay on the ground, the police said. They said the accused, Kajal, strangled her mother and brother in connivance with a cousin brother, who remains at large. (PTI)
Two drown while clicking selfies on boat
Raebareli, June 24: Two teenagers died after they drowned in the Ganga river while clicking selfies on a boat in Raebareli district. Three friends — Tauheed (17), Fahad (19), and Shaan (18) — went to the Payagpur Ganga Ghat and got into a boat to click selfies. “While clicking selfies they moved towards the edge of the boat lost balance and fell into the strong current of the river. Tauheed and Shaan were swept away while Fahad managed to swim ashore,” said circle officer Arun Kumar. Divers were deployed to trace the missing boys and their bodies were recovered several hours later on Sunday. (IANS)

Chennai/New Delhi, June 24: The death toll in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy climbed to 58 on Monday as the political slugfest escalated over the issue with BJP training its guns against Congress, questioning its “stoic silence” over the deadly episode in Tamil Nadu where ‘DMK-INDI Alliance’ is in power.
