Paralegal volunteers benefit from training programme in WJH

JOWAI, June 24: Paralegal volunteers benefited from a one-day legal literacy training programme conducted on Monday, which witnessed active participation and interaction throughout the course of the event.
Conducted by the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) of West Jaintia Hills, the event was held in the Conference Hall of the District and Sessions Court, Khliehtyrshi.
Secretary of District Legal Service Authority B Majaw briefed the paralegal volunteers on First Information Report (FIR), the process of filling an FIR and the importance of accurate and timely reporting of incidents. The volunteers also received detailed insights into various schemes offered by NALSA and free legal services.
She also briefed the volunteers on various topics including Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, the basic distinction between Criminal Law and Civil Law, compoundable and non-compoundable offences, bailable and non-bailable offences and the rights of prisoner.
Later, the paralegal volunteers actively participated and sought clarification on various matters during the interactive session.
