Office-bearers

The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Khasi Hills Zone, on Saturday elected its office-bearers during a meeting at Garo Union Secondary School, Shillong. According to a statement here, the new office-bearers who were elected include Tengku M Marak (president), Chelsea R Marak (vice president), Greig N Sangma (general secretary), Ronggrik Arengh (assistant general secretary), Ringchi A Sangma (additional general secretary), among others. “The elected office-bearers are committed to the welfare of A°chik Community and have been entrusted with the responsibility to advocate for our rights, address our concerns, and promote educational and cultural activities within the Khasi Hills Zone,” the statement said.
The Dorbar Shnong of Mwkynroh-Umshing, Mylliem Syiem, haselected new members to the Shnong for the year 2024-2028. The new members are Longshai Nongkhlaw (Rangbah Shnong), Forwell Warjri (assistant RangbahShnong), Lassing Diengdoh (general secretary), Stansing Kshirngap (assistantsecretary), et al.

Theft

Unidentified miscreants recently targeted a doctor’s vehicle by breaking the window and fleeing with a bag, tablet and other documents. The incident occurred at Golf Links area and an FIR in this regard has been registered with the police.

Condolence

The office-bearers and executive members of the Gorkha Secondary School Alumni Association, 3rd Mile Upper Shillong, have condoled the demise of its life member, Krishna Bahadur Thapa, a resident of Mawbah, who passed away on Saturday. A condolence meeting in this regard was also held, during which the executive members spoke about the good works and career achievements of Thapa. “The Alumni Association also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect and eternal peace to the departed soul,” a statement in this regard said.

Event

The Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, will organise the 14th Inter Shillong Cultural Event in July and August. According to a statement here, a Rabindra Sangeet and folk song competition will be held on July 21, while on July 28, a dance on Tagore Song and dance on folk song will be held. Art, Essay, fun games and English recitation competitions will be organised on August 18, while Bengali recitation and dance on Hindi song competitions will be held on August 25. “Forms are available at Jyoti Medical Hall, Laban, Pappu Medical Laban, Amrita Medicals Jail Road, Hotel Vishal Last Stop, Papa Enterprise Keating Road,” the statement said.
