KSU asks govt to act against holiday ‘defiance’

SHILLONG, July 3: The KSU on Wednesday asked the state government to come up with a stern order against those offices and institutions that remain open on local holidays.
“This happens every time and the KSU has to close down banks and other institutions. I think it is high time for the state government to issue an instruction to all to respect the traditional festivals and local holidays of the indigenous communities,” KSU president Lambokstar Marngar said.
He said that even on days meant for commemoration of freedom fighters of the state like U Tirot Sing and U Kiang Nangbah, the KSU has to take matters into their own hands and  instruct their members to go and close down offices and institutions.
The KSU on Wednesday shut down several institutions including banks, post offices and private companies for remaining open during the Behdienkhlam festivities.
The union also conducted checking of the institutions in areas like Mawlai, FCI Mawroh, Lumdiengjri, Motphran, Khyndai Lad, Laban, Laitumkhrah, Malki, Nongthymmai, Nongmensong and other areas.
